Can I melt my shaving soap to use in another container?

Depending on the type of shaving soap you are using, you can alter the puck to fit into any container. Hard-milled soaps cannot be melted, but they can be purchased as refill pucks that are sold without a wooden bowl or holder. Refill pucks are about half the price of regular shaving soap and can be easily stored in any holder. If the puck does not fit in your container, you can shred the soap with a cheese grater and pack it tightly into any bowl or dish of your choice. Glycerine soaps, on the other hand, can be melted if it is done very carefully. Place the soap in a microwave-safe bowl and heat it for no more than 5 to 10 seconds at a time. Using short bursts of heat will melt the soap, but prevent it from boiling, which can damage it. Once the shaving soap is completely melted, you can simply pour it into its new container and allow it to cool and harden.
