Shavemac Series 167 D01 Silvertip Shaving Brush
Shavemac is a well known name among wet shaving enthusiasts and has always been regarded as one of the elite manufacturers of shaving brushes. Based in Nuremburg, Germany, Shavemac produces a wide range of brushes in various sizes, shapes, and grades of badger hair. Bernd Blos, the owner of the Shavemac Company, has a reputation for exceptional craftsmanship and attention to detail for every product produced in the factory. While Shavemac has an extensive catalog of standard brushes, they also cater to special requests and offer a variety of customization options for singles pieces or full matching shaving sets.
When I first opened the box of my Shavemac D01, I was immediately impressed with the quality of work that went into producing this brush. The Series 167 large size handle is constructed of a beautiful polished material with a nice curved shape that fits very comfortably into my hand. The 28mm diameter brush knot supports a dense loft – another personal preference since I enjoy larger shaving brushes. The brush was carefully packed in a quality cardboard box that had inserts to cradle the brush as well as a plastic webbing material that protected the finish from any damage during its shipping from Germany.
Shavemac’s D01 grade is a premium silvertip badger hair that has an added level of tensile strength over the standard grades of hair. It gives the brush a nice dense and firm feel with plenty of backbone, but also has very soft and luxurious tips that feel amazing against the skin. The density of the brush knot retains plenty of water to create a rich lather from any of my favorite soaps and creams. Whether I lather on my hand, as I often do with my Load/Hydrate method, or in a bowl or directly on my face, the Shavemac has always worked flawlessly.
During the shaves, the D01 continued to deliver impressive results. The custom fan shape of my brush loads easily with more than enough lather and feels great when applying lather to my face. The shape of the brush loft makes it effortless to apply lather in a smooth and uniform layer and keeps it warm and well hydrated when I set the brush down between cutting passes. The super soft tips of the D01 hair gently massage the skin and easily rival the best silvertip brushes in my collection. While some brands of brushes that are known for being extremely dense require a period of several shaves for the tips to soften up, the Shavemac D01 felt perfect right out of the box.
There are many good quality shaving brushes on the market from well respected manufacturers, but my experience with the Shavemac D01 silvertip puts it among one of the best shaving brushes that I have ever used. The curved shaped handle and 28mm diameter fan shape loft make this an ideal brush that has earned a place in my regular rotation. This brush is available for purchase directly from Shavemac. The quality and performance of the Series 167 D01 Silvertip Shaving Brush are testaments to Shavemac’s reputation for outstanding craftsmanship and attention to detail.
